Motorcycle Accidents
Sunday, February 22nd, 2009
The dangers of the road are multiplied when you are on a motorcycle. A bike rider is more likely to be in an accident than a car driver. Automobiles and other larger vehicles often violate motorcyclists’ right of way. One reason for this is that motorcycles are more difficult to see. They are also smaller and more likely to be in another driver’s blind spot. Motorcycles are also more affected by road conditions such as potholes, oil and other spills, uneven roadways, and weather conditions.
When there is an accident, the injuries are generally far more serious for motorcycle riders. A motorcycle weighs at most half of an average automobile, and the rider is not protected by a steel cage, but only by clothing and a helmet. The rider is also very likely to be ejected. Catastrophic injuries and death are very common.
